Biodegradable clothes are garments made from natural materials that can decompose in the environment without causing harm. Biodegradable clothing prioritizes fabric materials that decompose in a short time in natural environments, between a few days to a few weeks.

Algae

Algae fibre is made by algae from the sea, the manufacturing process to make algae fibre involves breaking down of the cellulose. It then goes through a process of washing, retting, filtering and finally spinning to produce yarn. Unlike cotton, growing algae doesn’t take up agricultural land, and it doesn’t have the carbon emissions associated with using fertilizer. Up to 80% of water is saved to produce algae fabric than cotton fabric.

Corn

Corn is an agricultural product and is high in starch. Corn fibre is made using the fermentation of simple plant sugar, derived from corn. The fermentation process goes through a chemical transformation, but no petrochemicals are used. So it's not 100% natural, it's man-made. The process is generally considered to be renewable. Making corn fibre does not require petrochemistry. Almost half of the energy is saved to produce corn fibre than cotton or even organic cotton.

Bamboo

We are not spinning the bamboo fibre directly in to yarn. Bamboo fibre is made by allowing the plant to break down via natural enzymes. Once it has become pliable, it is then spinning into yarn or mixing with the other fibres. Bamboo is one of the tallest grass species in the world. It grows easily and comes in without the need for fertilizers or pesticides, so it’s generally very sustainable. Bamboo cools down the surrounding air by up to 8 degrees in summer too!
